In a wild turn of events, residents of an apartment building in Germany experienced a late-night surprise. They were convinced that a group of teenagers was behind a string of annoying doorbell rings. But when the police arrived, it was not a prankster causing the ruckus at all - it was a slug!
According to The Guardian, the situation began late at night when the doorbells started buzzing incessantly, waking up frustrated residents. People suspected it was a classic game of ding dong ditch, where kids ring the bell and run away before anyone answers. However, after a while, the ringing did not stop, even with police on the scene, leading to a bewildering discovery.
According to Lisa, a 30-year-old shop assistant, she initially ignored the doorbell, thinking it might be neighborhood kids from an abandoned house. But when her sister-in-law, who lived upstairs, called to complain about her own doorbell ringing, they decided to call the police. “It kept ringing even as we telephoned and despite the fact no one could be seen at the door,” Lisa said. The mystery deepened, stirring unease among the residents.
After a thorough investigation, the police found the unexpected culprit - a slug, or as it’s known in German, a nacktschnecke, which literally translates to “naked snail.” The little creature had been sliding up and down the doorbell panel, creating chaos with its slimy trail.
The police managed to capture the tiny troublemaker and, in a lighthearted conclusion to the night’s antics, they relocated the slug to a nearby stretch of grass. A police spokesperson humorously stated that the slug had been “brought down to size” and was “taught about its territory boundaries.”
