Andy Murray and Mo Farah have been knighted in the Queen’s New Year Honours List.
Murray finished 2016 as the world number one tennis player having won his second Wimbledon title and Olympic gold at the Rio Games. He also received BBC Sports Personality for a record third time earlier this month.
Mo Farah won his third and fourth Olympic golds in Rio – victories in the 5,000m and 10,000m adding to the titles he won in London in 2012.
Others on the list are, Paralympic dressage rider Lee Pearson also becomes a Sir, with heptathlete Jessica Ennis-Hill and rower Katherine Grainger being made dames.
Cyclists Jason and Laura Kenny received CBEs along with equestrians Charlotte Dujardin, Nick Skelton and Sophie Christiansen. Swimmer Sascha Kindred also received a CBE.
Nicola Adams (boxing), and GB hockey captain Kate Richardson-Walsh received OBEs, as did Welsh manager Chris Coleman.
