2.5 tonnes of “Plastic Rice” Seized by Nigeria Customs

The Nigerian customs have confirmed the confiscation of 2.5 tonnes of plastic rice purportedly imported into the country by some unscrupulous businessmen.

Speaking with news men in Lagos, Haruna Mamudu who is the Lagos custom chief said the fake rice was intended to be sold in the market during the yuletide season. He said the rice was very sticky when boiled, “only God knows what would have happened” if people ate it.

The general public have been warned to be careful and watchful of the rice they buy and consume.

The customs have promised to trace the origin of the importation and make sure that all involved are brought to book.

All fingers at the moment point to China which has been accused of the production of the said rice is the past.

A total of 102 sacks, each containing 25kg (55lb), was seized.
